The pedestrian footbridge that spans Parley’s Creek between Big Field Pavilion and Fabian Lakeside Pavilion (on the West end of the park) has been resurfaced. New wood planks were added to the existing planks to create a smooth surface. The existing railings were shortened to accommodate space for the extra layer. Concrete apron approaches replaced the broken asphalt path and connected the existing sidewalks to the bridge smoothly.
The need for repair work to the pedestrian footbridge was brought before the Sugar House Park Authority in April 2024 with a quote of $21,915.60 for improvements. The Park Authority voted unanimously to pay for the repair work from their reserve account, which is supplied from annual pavilion rentals and special event permits. The Park Authority, a board of nine members —seven community members and a representative from Salt Lake County and Salt Lake City— serve as representatives for all park users to maintain, develop, and continue the legacy of Sugar House Park.
The Park Authority wants to thank everyone who rents pavilions and hosts a permitted event at Sugar House Park. Your contributions are invested back into the Park for improvements like the bridge surface repair.
Thank you to Salt Lake County Parks and Recreation staff for their ongoing maintenance and management to keep Sugar House Park clean and safe.
